The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services have confirmed cases of canine influenza (dog flu) in Florida. Canine influenza is a highly contagious virus that can cause coughing, fever, decreased appetite and lethargy in dogs. Fortunately, most dogs will recover with supportive care.
To help prevent the spread of this illness, anyone who has a coughing dog or suspects their dog may have been exposed to canine influenza, should follow these simple steps to prevent the spread of this disease in our canine friends:
It is important you do not bring your dog into the building or allow your dog to explore hospital property without permission from medical staff. The virus is treatable, but may be detrimental to other canines with highly compromised immune systems.
